Partners in Time Volunteers: Two
Decades That Made a Difference
Macy’s and Bloomingdale’s
associates nationwide have given
1.7 million hours of community
service since our Partners in Time
volunteer program began in 1989,
valued at more than $28 million
to the thousands of charities
served. Partners in Time has been
nationally recognized, receiving the
Points of Light /Hands On Network
“Award for Excellence in Workplace
Volunteerism,” among other honors.
In 2008, about 60,000 participants
volunteered for 3,512 Partners in
Time projects – 20 percent benefiting
youth and education, 16 percent
affecting health issues, including
AIDS, 12 percent benefiting
homelessness, seniors and the
disability community, and 6 percent
supporting breast cancer research
and family violence awareness.
Bag Hunger Provides 39 Million Meals for Hungry Families
During the annual Partners in Time Bag Hunger food drive, Macy’s,
Bloomingdale’s and support locations nationwide band together to help
alleviate hunger each summer – a time when pantry shelves are often bare
and school meal programs are not offered. In 2009, food banks across the
country are benefiting from food, community service and monetary donations
equivalent to 9.7 million pounds of food. Hunger relief projects
represented 22 percent of Partners in Time efforts last year. Since 1998,
Partners in Time has provided an equivalent 39 million meals for hungry
families throughout the country, many through affiliates of Feeding
America, the largest domestic hunger-relief organization in the United
States.
Macy’s Ultimate Gift:
1 Million Thanksgiving Meals
Through our Million Meals campaign,
Macy’s gave the ultimate gift for
Thanksgiving 2008 – 1 million meals
to those at risk of hunger – in
partnership with Feeding America.
In addition, Macy’s Culinary Council
chefs joined our volunteers in
preparing menu items and serving
food. In San Francisco, Chef Andrea
Robinson and volunteers prepared
meals with Glide Memorial Church/
San Francisco Food Bank. Volunteers
also distributed 5,000 meals at
neighborhood pantries on
Thanksgiving Day. In Atlanta, Chef
Tyler Florence joined volunteers to
cap off a six-day Partners in Time
project for the Open Hand food
delivery charity. Other hunger relief
events took place in Philadelphia
and Miami.
